May 2018 Civil Engineer board exam takers still allowed to use Casio calculators FX-991ES, FX-991ES Plus

MANILA, Philippines - The examinees of the May 2018 Civil Engineer (CE) board exam may still use the calculators with models: Casio FX-991ES and Casio FX-991ES Plus, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) said on Friday, April 27.

Meanwhile, all such calculators shall be subjected to the mandatory resetting of programs prior to the start of examination.

For this purpose, the examinees are required to present their calculators, regardless of any model to the assigned proctors before the distribution of the test questions.

The announcement was made amidst the persistent appeal of May 6-8 CE board exam takers to exclude them from the covered examinees of Memorandum Circular No. 2018-01, signed by PRC Chairman Teofilo S. Pilando, Jr.

According to the memorandum, certain models of Casio calculators are to be banned beginning May 8, 2018.

"Engr. Praxedes Bernardo, Chairman of the Board of Civil Engineering, requested for the exclusion of Casio Calculator FX-991ES and FX-991ES PLUS in the list of calculators that may be used during the licensure due to their programmable feaures," the memorandum stated.
