Long-distance runner Erwin Mancao from Villanueva National High School in Looc, Misamis Oriental was overwhelmed with emotion when he won his first Gold. He had been eyeing for the top prize for three times now and was overjoyed when he finally got it.

The young athlete had been training hard to get the coveted top prize, not for himself but for his family. Coming from a humble family, the prize will be a huge help for them to rebuild their broken home.

He said, “Masaya ako dahil nakamit ko na 'to sa wakas!”

“Kasambahay po ang nanay ko at nasa niyogan ang tatay ko. Yung incentive ko po dito, ipapagawa ang bahay namin,” Mancao revealed.

Mancao, along with other Gold medalists from Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) is set to bring home an incentive of P20,000 from Region 10’s Department of Education.

Support pours in

After photos of Erwin Mancao spread online, several netizens have expressed their admiration for the young Gold medalist.

A netizen named Bam Petillos on Facebook has been gathering the support of others to extend any amount of donation or cash gifts to help Mancao and his family.
