MANILA, Philippines - Several areas and schools announced suspension of classes and work for Friday, July 28, 2017 due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon (Habagat) enhanced by severe tropical storm "Gorio."

In the latest weather bulletin by state weather bureau PAGASA, "Bagyong Gorio" enhances the Southwest Monsoon which brings moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the western section of Luzon including Metro Manila and light to moderate rains over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

At 4:00 p.m. Thursday, the center of Severe Tropical Storm "Gorio" was estimated based on all available data at 595 km East of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan(18.0°N, 127.3°E). Tropical cyclone warning signal (30-60 kph expected in 36 hours) No. 1 was raised over Batanes.

Thunderstorm is now affecting Bataan (Mariveles,Limay) which may persist within 2 hours.

Thunderstorm can be expected also over Cavite, Metro Manila, Laguna, Bulacan, Pampanga and other areas of Bataan within the next 2 hours.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains affecting  MetroManila(CAMANAVA, Manila), Bulacan, Pampanga, and portions of Rizal,  NuevaEcija, Quezon and may affect nearby areas which may persist for 2-3 hours.

  • Pampanga (excluding Angeles) – all levels (public and private)
  • Olongapo City – all levels (public and private)
  • Porac, Pampanga – preschool to senior high school (public and private)
  • Taytay, Rizal – all levels (public and private)
  • Zambales – all levels (public and private)

SCHOOLS/UNIVERSITIES



Based on automatic class suspension guidelines from DepEd, LGUs have the authority to declare local suspensions in areas where there is no storm signal.
