Magnitude 5.4 earthquake shakes Metro Manila, Luzon areas on May 25, 2017

MANILA, Philippines - (Updated as of 11:15 p.m.) The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a magnitude 5.4 earthquake that shook parts of Metro Manila and Luzon on Thursday evening, May 25, 2017.

The exact time of occurrence was recorded at 10:27:00 p.m. with epicenter at 15.10°N, 120.04°E - 019 km N 41° W of San Marcelino, Zambales.

The earthquake that occurred has a tectonic origin with 88 km depth of focus.

The strong quake was felt at Intensity IV in Quezon City, Pateros and Malolos, Bulacan.

Intensity III was recorded in Tagaytay City; Talisay Batangas; San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan; Pasay City; Makati City; Mandaluyong; Manila City; Paranaque City; Taguig City; San Miguel, Tarlac; Marilao, Bulacan.

Intensity II was felt in Palayan City; Bacoor, Cavite; San Jacinto, Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensities are as follows:

Intensity IV - Quezon City; Marikina City
Intensity III - Talisay, Batangas; Palayan City; Batangas City
Intensity II - Magalang, Pampanga
Intensity I - Sinait, Ilocos Sur

Followers of The Summit Express said they felt the earthquake in Metro Manila, Laguna, Bulacan, Cavite, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Rizal, Bataan, Baguio, La Union and Zambales.

Phivolcs reported no damage resulting from the quake, but said in its bulletin that aftershocks were expected.

Note: Initial information from Phivolcs said earthquake was in Magnitude 5.5.
