Blind singer Alienette Coldfire, or Katchry Jewel Golbin in real life won the hearts of judges with her rendition of Jacques Brel’s “Quand on n'a que l’amour.”

In 2014, Alienette’s talent started getting noticed after a video of her effortlessly singing Mariah Carey’s hit “I’ll Be There” inside a mall in the Philippines quickly went viral. Carey had just finished the Manila leg of her “Elusive Chanteuse” tour at the time the video made the rounds online.

Aside from mastering English and Filipino songs, Alienette began taking interest in the French language after hearing the song “La Vie En Rose” or Life in Rosy Hues by Edith Piaf.

In her interview with ABS-CBN News, Alienette said: ”Nung marinig ko ang song ni Edith Piaf na La Vie En Rose, I told myself, parang iba ang style nito. I found it unique so parang gusto kong maintindihan lahat ng mga kantang ganun.”

Learning how to sing in a different language wasn’t an easy feat considering that she is blind but with the help of blogs and online communities, Alienette was able to learn French in three years.

"I listen to French conversations without understanding them. I listen closely to the rhythm of the language. Tapos nung nag-start na ko to learn the language seriously, everything came naturally na lang,” Alienette added.

With her knowledge of the language and incredible vocal prowess, Alienette impressed the panel of judges with her rendition of the French version of “I Dreamed a Dream”, a hit from the musical “Les Miserables”. While judges Eric Antoine, Gilbert Rozon and Kamel Ouali were blown away by her talent, Helena Segara was moved to tears.
