'Bagyong Helen' PAGASA weather update September 25, 2016

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon 'Helen,' the eight weather disturbance that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this year has slightly intensified as it continues to move in the general direction of Batanes-Taiwan area, the state weather bureau has announced Sunday, September 25, 2016.

'Bagyong Helen' (international name: Megi) was located based on all available data at 1,025 km East of Calayan, Cagayan(19.6°N, 131.2°E) at of 10:00 a.m. today.

'Helen' has a maximum sustained winds of up to 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 175 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 22 kph.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised tropical cyclone warning signal No. 1 (30-60 kph expected in 36 hours) in Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands.

The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within 800 km diameter of the Typhoon.

PAGASA said that sea travel is risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon.

The typhoon is expected to exit PAR on Wednesday morning, September 28.

'Helen' would be the third typhoon to affect Northern Luzon in two weeks as it earlier hit by Typhoons “Ferdie” (Meranti) and “Gener” (Malakas).
