Typhoon Jenny intensifies; rainy weekend expected in Luzon, Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines - Cyclone Jenny (international name: Dujuan) intensified into a typhoon, the state weather bureau PAGASA announced on Friday, September 25, 2015.

At 4:00 pm today, the eye of Typhoon Jenny was located based on all available data at 1,010 km east of Basco, Batanes (19.8°N, 131.6°E) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move Northwest at 9 kph.

Jenny is still on track toward China, with no landfall seen in the Philippines.

Monsoon rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides will be experienced in Palawan, Western Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula. Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms is expected over Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region and the rest of Visayas and of Mindanao.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northwest to west will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest over Visayas and Mindanao. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.

PAGASA said Jenny's movement is expected to enhance the southwest typhoon over the weekend, bringing up to moderate occasional rains in Manila and the rest of Southern Luzon.
