El Gamma Penumbra is first Asia's Got Talent Grand Winner

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino pride El Gamma Penumbra was named first-ever grand winner of Asia's Got Talent in the finals night held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on Thursday, May 14, 2015.

The shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra from Tanauan City, Batangas earned the highest percentage of votes from Asian audience. They received a cash prize of US$100,000 and a chance to perform at the Marina Bay Sands.

El Gamma Penumbra was among the top 3 finalists of the first pan-regional edition of the hit global "Got Talent" franchise airing on AXN.


"Our journey in Asia's Got Talent is the highlight of, not only our career, but of our lives," two-time 'Golden Buzzer' recipient El Gamma Penumbra said.


Musical ensemble Khusugtun from Mongolia placed second in the competition. Filipino classical singer Gerphil Flores finished her journey on third spot.

"This is so amazing. We don't have any words to express ourselves. Thank you!" says one of the members of Khusugtun.

"We speak for so many people when we say THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING! We all know how tough...," Gerphil-Geraldine Flores said.

Nine finalists battled for the title on Thursday night which also include two other Filipino acts - teen dance troupe Junior New System and 10-year-old singer Gwyneth Dorado. The rest are from Thailand, China, Singapore, Mongolia and Japan.

AGT trimmed down the list to top 6 with El Gamma Penumbra (Philippines), Gerphil Flores (Philippines), The Talento (Thailand), Triqstar (Japan), Khusugtun (Mongolia) and Junior New System (Philippines).

The top 4 was named next. Triqstar and Junior New System got eliminated.

The first-ever winner was chosen through public vote, where audience members and viewers at home in Asia can vote for their favorites via SMS, Facebook, or on the show’s official app.

Based from the social media poll created by Asia's Got Talent on Facebook, El Gamma Penumbra was the top choice ahead of Khusugtun.

Charice and illusionist Cosentino (Australia's Got Talent season 5 runner-up) performed in the results night, with the judges covering their own version of "Let's Groove" by Earth, Wind & Fire.

The grand finals of Asia's Got Talent landed as the most talked-about topic on social media on Thursday night with '#AsiasGotTalentGrandFinals' topped Philippine Twitter trends.

Asia's Got Talent is hosted by Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez. The judges were Grammy-winning musician David Foster, Taiwanese-American heatthrob Vanness Wu (of F4 fame), former Spice Girl Melanie C., and Indonesian rock icon Anggun.
