MIAMI, Florida - Miss Colombia Paulina Vega wins the Miss Universe crown beating out first runner-up Miss USA Nia Sanchez and 86 other contestants in the much awaited coronation night on Sunday night, January 25 (Monday morning in Manila).
The 22-year old new title holder said she would wear the crown with "pride and excitement" as she heard the news that fans in Colombia had taken to the streets to celebrate.
The last time Colombia won the crown was in 1958 when Luz Marina Zuluaga scored the title.
Meanwhile, Philippines bet MJ Lastimosa failed to make it to the top 5 of the annual pageant. Filipinos expect her to finally take home the coveted title after the previous representatives did well getting closest to the crown. The 27-year-old beauty from Cotabato made it through to the final 15 and the final 10.
Making it to the top five finalist includes Netherlands, Ukraine and Jamaica.
