40.1 degC -highest recorded temperature in the Philippines 2013

Disaster scientist and Project NOAH Head Mahar Lagmay on Saturday, 6 April 2013 announced via Twitter the highest recorded temperature in the Philippines. 40.1 deg Celsius was recorded from Diffun, Quirino, a province in Northern Luzon.

"Heto ang temp record sa Quirino kaninang 2:45pm, 40.1 deg C!", Lagmay said.


The scientist also informed that the new record beats the 39.5 deg C monitored on 1912. The 1969 record of 42.2 deg C in Tuguegarao, Cagayan is still the hottest in Philippine weather history.

According to PAGASA, 35.4 degrees Celsius  is the hottest  temperature for Metro Manila this year  recorded on Friday, 5 April 2013 at 2pm.

In Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, the warmest temperature was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius, and in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, it reached 36.5 degrees Celsius.

Manny Mendoza of PAGASA advised the public to brace for hotter weather in the coming days as the easterlies - warm wind from the Pacific Ocean - peak.

The temperature for Metro Manila could reach 37 deg Celsius this summer.

In the latest bulletin released this day, tail-end of a cold front is affecting Extreme Northern Luzon. and strong to gale force wind is expected to affect the Northern and Eastern seaboards.

PAGASA said that there is no tropical cyclone development within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
