Jesse Robredo body found, died at 54

After almost three days of intense search and recue operations for DILG Sec. Jesse Manalastas Robredo and two other pilots, Transportation Sec. Mar Roxas confirmed Tuesday morning that the 3 men died at the plane crash incident. The body was found  at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, 800 meters from the shore of Masbate.

Robredo died at the age of 54.

Roxas said Robredo’s body was the first to be recovered and brought to land. The cabin is at a depth of 180 feet inside the fuselage of the small Piper. The bodies of the two pilots were retrieved in the cockpit area and were still being brought to land as of posting at 10 am.

"At roughly 8:30 or 8:40, 'yung bangkay ni Sec. Jess ay naiabot na sa surface at ito ay nilagay sa body bag at kinarga na sa barko ng Coast Guard. Ongoing pa rin ang operation for the other bodies in the fuselage," he said in a press briefing on Tuesday. Roxas said the retrieval was complicated because of the position of the fuselage.

Robredo's body was immediately brought to a coast guard vessel. As confirmed this morning, Robredo's body is now at Las Internas funeral parlor in Masbate.

It is coincident that recovering Jesse Robredo's body falls on Ninoy Aquino Day. As we commemorate for the 29th death anniversary of Aquino, we also mourn to the death of another model public servant.
