Mico Palanca passes away at 41

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Mico Palanca has passed away at the age of 41.

The untimely passing of the former actor has been confirmed by his sister Erika Hocson. On Instagram, she posted their family's official statement on the incident.

"We are extremely saddened and heartbroken by the sudden passing of our beloved brother, Miko Palanca. The whole family is grateful for the incredible outpouring of love and support that has been coming in today," she said.

"As of now, we respectfully request for privacy as we go through this very difficult time. Again, we appreciate all the love and support — thank you so much," their statement added.

Erika also posted a more personal message for her Kuya Mico. She wrote, "I love you. Didn't say it enough, but I did. I do. So much. I'm so glad I got to tell you how much I looked up to you growing up. Thank you, kuya."

Mico's brother Martin shared a loving message saying, "Already missing you kuya. Wish you didn't go so soon. Rest easy now. I love you."

While investigation is still ongoing and complete details have yet to be announced, several sources claimed that Palanca died allegedly due to suicide.

Palanca allegedly jumped off a building in a residential area in Santolan Town, San Juan on December 9, Monday. Clinical depression is being considered as an apparent reason for Palanca's untimely death. A source also claimed that love problems may have further aggravated Palanca's depression.

On Facebook, the Film Academy of the Philippines already extended their sincerest sympathy to the untimely passing of the actor.


Palanca's former Star Magic handler Monch Novales also posted on Instagram a photo of him and the actor, along with a short message.

"I will miss you miko! I love you forever," he said.

Mico is the younger brother of actor Bernard Palanca.

He signed contract with ABS-CBN until 2012 before he shied away from the limelight. He starred in weekly-oriented program Tabing Ilog (2000 ) and in primetime teleseryes such as Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay (2002-2003) and It Might Be You (2004-2005). Mico was in a previous relationship with Bea Alonzo for over 5 years.
