Shopper receives rock instead of Php10k phone from online store

MANILA, Philippines – These days, you can buy just about anything online – that’s not just limited to small items that can be shipped to your home but even real estate and really just about anything you can imagine.

The problem with buying something online, however, is that there are times when unscrupulous sellers or thieving couriers prey on unsuspecting customers.

Netizen Ka Bino Guerrero shared the story of his brother’s bad experience with online store Lazada.

According to Bino, his brother Gringo Guerrero had always been a loyal Lazada customer, having bought many items from the online store for years.

Satisfied with the store’s service for years, Gringo recently ordered several products during Lazada’s Birthday Festival. According to Bino, Gringo bought Azus Zenphone, a Flat Screen TV, and a digital level tool.

When the Asus Zenphone arrived, Gringo went to the LBC office in Bais City, Negros Oriental because the item was to be paid on a COD (cash on delivery) basis.
After paying Php10,000, he picked up the box and was about to leave but was suddenly suspicious because it was much heavier than usual. So, he turned back and opened the package in front of the LBC staff.

They were all rather shocked to see a big rock inside the box, instead of the Php10k smartphone he was supposed to receive! It was really a good thing he opened the package inside the office so that there was no doubt whatsoever that he might be trying to bad-mouth the online store or cheat his way to a free phone.

The LBC staff advised them to report the matter to the Police which they promptly did. According to Bino, Lazada refunded his brother for the Php10k he paid for the smartphone but he’s encouraging the online store to screen its staff to avoid similar incidents in the future.
