Woman Saves Almost P100K in 7-Day Money Saving Challenge

MANILA, Philippines - A woman’s Facebook post has earned mixed reactions from netizens after she revealed how she was able to save P99,550 in just seven days.

In the hopes of inspiring netizens to save money, young entrepreneur Rosemarie Peñamora Tan shared her tips in saving a big amount of money in just a week through her viral Facebook post. According to Tan, she started saving P50-, P100-, P500-, P1,000-bills on September 2 not inside a coin bank but a can of puppy’s milk. Tan revealed that using the can allowed her to save more money since she didn’t have to spend on a new coin bank.

She vowed not to open the makeshift coin bank until September 9.

Tan said she decided to take on the challenge because she had the tendency to spend money on useless things. Although she has been doing various forms of businesses since the age of 19 and had already invested in her own house, she still takes joy in saving money for the rainy days.

“Masayang mag ipon. I'm not here para mag yabang. Dahil maraming nag cocomment at nag me message sakin na na iinspired ko daw sila sa mga post ko. Isa din po itong inspirational post ulit from me. And hopefully take it as positive. I just want to tell sa inyong lahat na mag simula na tayong mag ipon habang nasa young age pa tayo. And besides, di to full income. Hinahanda ko lang sarili ko para sa monthly bayarin. Meron akong 8 staff/crew , 2 commercial space rent, kuryente ,tubig all expenses etc. 25 cats and many dogs to feed,” Tan wrote in her post.

Towards the end of her post, Tan said it doesn’t matter how much money you save as long as you have savings and prepared for the expenses.

“Di ko naman sinasabi na sa 7 days kelangan ganto din kalaki ipon nyo. Kahit ilan naman ang mahalaga may ipon at ready tayo sa mga expenses,” Tan added.

Although Tan’s post earned positive comments, other accused her of just bragging her income and not her actual savings. Others commented that the 7-day challenge was very easy for Tan since she’s an entrepreneur and not a regular employee.

Earlier, Tan decided to put down her post after few realizations from the reactions of netizens.
