SONA 2017: Class suspensions on Monday, July 24 #WalangPasok

MANILA, Philippines - (Updated July 23 as of 9 p.m.) Classes have been suspended in selected areas and schools on Monday, July 24, 2017 as President Rodrigo Duterte is set to deliver his second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

While SONA 2017 was not declared holiday throughout the country, some areas to be affected by heavy traffic and mass demonstrations were given a break.

Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista announced suspension of classes in ALL LEVELS, both private and public schools.

Around 5,000 protesters are expected around the Batasang Pambansa Complex on Monday.

SONA is a constitutional obligation and yearly tradition, wherein the chief executive reports on the status of the country, unveils the government’s agenda for the coming year, and proposes to Congress certain legislative measures.

Seventy-six (76) SONAs have been delivered so far.
