MANILA, Philippines - Two Filipino boxers were scheduled to fight in “Battle of Brisbane” in the undercard matches. For the curtain raiser, Manny Pacquiao’s cousin, the 19 year old Jonel Dapidran, lost to his Australian foe, Brent Dames in the lightweight division. Dames outscored Dapidran 58-56, 59-55, 58-56 for the unanimous win.
Two more Aussies won their matches and pumped-up the massive crowd in preparation for the main event. New South Wales native Brock Davis retained his immaculate record after knocking out his Indonesian rival Rasmanudin in the very first round while Damien Hooper of Queensland edged the Russian Umar Salamov to win the WBO and IBF International Light Heavyweight belts.

In the televised undercard fights, Hall of Famer Shane Mosley’s son, Shane Junior lost via split decision to another Australian David Toussaint who also preserved his unblemished record and improved to 12-0-0: W-L-D.
Michael Conlan from Ireland gave team Australia its first lost when he stopped Jarret Owen in the 1:56 mark of the 3rd round. The Irishman targeted Owen’s body with barrage of punches. The Australian was really outclassed and outboxed that led to his downfall.
In the co-main event, Filipino Champion Jerwin Ancajas defended his title against the Japanese Teiru Kinoshita who has an impressive record of 25-1-1 with 8 KOs. Ancajas who has an almost synonymous record of 26-1-1 was the better boxer coming into the title fight against the Japanese with 9 more knockouts under his name.
Ancajas cut Kinoshita’s right eyebrow with a hard right at the end of the 2nd round. The ring physician checked the Japanese’s condition and gave his corner a green light to continue the fight.
Kinoshita’s right eye was completely shut in the 7th round due to the volume of punches that he sustained from Ancajas but it was the Filipino’s shot to his right body that dropped him to the canvass and ended the bout.
With the win, Jerwin Ancajas retained his IBF Bantamweight crown and moved up to 27-1-1 with 18 knockouts.
