READ: Brave soldier’s heartbreaking conversation with father before dying in Marawi clash

About 20 members of the Philippine troop have offered their lives in the fight against Maute terrorists in Marawi City as of Monday, May 30. As the number of fatalities increases, Filipinos all over the world are hoping peace will soon come over the place where tragedy struck.

Among the casualties is Army corporal Angelo Estores Jr., a brave, young soldier who had the opportunity to call his father before getting hit in the battlefield. A member of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) 5th mechanized battalion, the 25-year-old father of two kids was supposed to marry the mother of his children on June 29, 2017 in Pikit, North Cotabato.

Here’s Jestoni Almeres', cousin of Estores Jr., heartbreaking narration of the tragic turn of events.

At around 1pm on May 25, Estores Jr. called his father Angelo Estores Sr., a retired soldier who survived a previous encounter in Jolo. He asked his father to pray for him as only three of them have survived and nine of his companions are already dead.

“Pa, Pray mo sa ako, murag dili na madayon akong kasal, tulo na lang mi nabilin ang siyam patay na,” the younger Estores reportedly told his father.

Estores Sr. then advised his son to stay put and not get out until reinforcement arrives.

The younger Estores then told his father that he is crawling towards the 50-caliber of his companion as he doesn’t have ammunition. He also revealed that the enemies are firing them with RPG and that his officer has died.

As Estores Sr. was instructing his son what to do, the latter became unresponsive. Initially, Estores Sr. thought his son was just wounded. At around 3pm, Estores Sr. attempted to call his son but the phone just kept on ringing.

Classmates of Estores Jr. then informed the father that the former was hit at around 6pm. It wasn’t until the next day that Estores Sr. received the tragic news from the military command center that his son’s life has been cut short by the Marawi siege.
