Netizens have shared some photos of the tragic incident that happened around 10:00 in the morning, few minutes after the mall opened.

According to Brigada News Davao on Facebook, the victim named Rheyn Mark Tubato, 20 years old from Riverside, Barangay Sasa, Davao City, was dead on the spot as a result of his head-first fall.

The mall authority immediately covered the life-less body.

In an interview of Brigada News FM with Senior Insp. Mary Theresa Gaspan, it was identified that poverty is the cause of the suicide of Tubato. The victim appeared distraught before he climbed the railings and jumped to his death.

Police added that Tubato's father is sick and had sent him to the mall carrying P20 to buy medicine.

The investigation of the authority is still ongoing.

As of press time, the Gaisano Mall of Davao is yet to issue statement on the incident.

This is not the first time a suicide was committed in GMall. In 2013, internet cafe worker, Nestor Ramos Jr. of Panabo City, also jumped from the fourth floor. In 2015, a girl identified as 'Joy' was hospitalized after she attempted to commit suicide, jumping from the fifth level of the mall.
