Superheroes, sequels, and reboots have dominated this year’s list of must-see movies. From action, romance or comedy, here are films not to miss this 2017.

1. Logan

Release Date: March 1

The 10th installment of the X-Men film series, Logan is an American superhero film featuring the popular Marvel Comics character Wolverine. The movie’s plot is inspired by Marvel’s Old Man Logan comic, an alternate-future version of the iconic ageless hero. After having played the role of Wolverine for 17 years, Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of the character in this film will be his last. The return of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X will also be featured in this film.


2. Beauty and the Beast

Release Date: March 17

The highly anticipated live-action film remake of the animated 90’s classic Beauty and the Beast is a romantic dark fantasy musical film which is an adaptation of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont's classic fairy tale. Pure-hearted maiden Belle, played by Emma Watson, is taken prisoner by a Beast, portrayed by Dan Stevens, in his enchanted castle.


3. The Fate of the Furious

Release Date: April 14

Despite Paul Walker’s sudden death in 2013, the Furious franchise seems unstoppable and even managed to come up with Furious 7 in 2015 and a new sequel this year. In the film Dom, portrayed by Vin Diesel, is lured back into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape after being seduced by a mysterious woman, played by Charlize Theron. It will be the first film of the franchise other than The Fast and the Furious:Tokyo Drift which will not star Walker.


4. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Release Date: May 26

The franchise that grossed almost $4 billion will be releasing its fifth installment with Johnny Depp, Geoffry Rush and Kevin McNally reprising their roles as Jack Sparrow, Hector Barbossa and Joshamee Gibbs, respectively. In this sequel, Sparrow faces off against old rival Capitán Salazar. The return of Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner will also be featured in the film.


5. Wonder Woman

Release Date: June 2

The iconic female superhero’s appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has left the audience wanting more of her. Wonder Woman’s first standalone feature, which is believed to be the first instalment in a period-piece trilogy, Amazon princess Diana leaves home and tries to stop World War and becomes Wonder Woman. The film will once again star Gal Gadot and will feature Chris Pine, Robin Wright and Danny Huston.


6. Transformers: The Last Knight

Release: June 23

A direct sequel to 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, this film is expected to be Michael Bay’s fifth and last Transformers film. Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci will reprise their roles from the fourth installment, along with Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro from the first three films.


7. Despicable Me 3

Release Date: June 30

In the third installment of the Despicable Me film series, Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, will face off against Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who has become obsessed with the character he played in the 80’s. The boss of the Minions and the adoptive father of Margo, Edith and Agnes will also get into some sibling rivalry after being reunited with his long lost twin brother, Dru.


8. Spider-man: Homecoming

Release Date: July 7

In the second reboot of the Spider-man film franchise, Peter Parker, a 15-year-old who received spider-like abilities after being bitten by a genetically-modified spider, will try to balance his life as an ordinary high school student and as a superhero with the help of his mentor, Tony Stark. Tom Holland was selected to play the role of Parker after producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal were impressed by his previous performances in The Impossible, Wolf Hall and In the Heart of the Sea.



9. Justice League

Release Date: November 17

Intended as the fifth installment of DC Extended Universe, Justice League features an all-star cast including Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, and Ciarán Hinds. In the film, Batman, played by Affleck, and Wonder Woman, portrayed by Gadot, assemble a team consisting of Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash and the newly resurrected Superman to fight Steppenwolf and an army of Parademons.


10: Star Wars: Episode VIII

Release Date: December 15

The upcoming epic space opera film written and directed by Rian Johnson will star Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, in returning roles. Fortunately, Fisher managed to finish filming before her sudden death in December 2016.
