The photo of the arrest, which shows the suspected lovebirds with handcuffs and towels covering their faces, was shared on the Facebook page of Sun.Star Cebu. As expected, the controversial photo caught the attention of netizens gaining over 21,000 shares on the social network and eliciting various reactions.

Although there were no further details given about the incident, the caption of the post indicates that the man works as a seaman. This caught the ire of several netizens, particularly seamen. According to them, Sun.Star shouldn’t have used the term “seaman” as it generalizes seamen, who are often depicted by the society as womanizers.

“Unfair na inemphasize ninyo na SEAMAN yung tao. Pwede nga naman na OFW para naman hindi masyadong mabansagan na ang mga seaman e babaero. Hindi lahat ng Seaman e kagaya ng na post ninyo. Sa dami ng mga hinawakan ko na mga crew ko e bihira na ngayon na nambababae dahil na rin sa hirap ng buhay ngayon,” Elvis Daoang commented.

Meanwhile, other netizens lambasted Sun.Star Cebu for reporting about the private matter instead of focusing on more relevant news.

“Yes, we all know that adultery is against the law here in the Philippines. But why should it be publicly banded around. You seem to forget that these people have families and children. There is no need to report this kind of thing!” Dave Bond wrote.

Although it was not reported if the wife will continue to press concubinage charges against her husband, the latter may face 2 years, 4 months and 1 day to 6 years of imprisonment if proven guilty. Meanwhile, if the concubine was aware that her lover is married, she will be sentence to destierro or “be prohibited from entering the place or places designated in the sentence, or within the radius therein designated, which shall include a distance of 25 kilometers at least, and 250 kilometers at most, from the place designated."
