MDS Supporters: Stop posting Miriam's open casket photos online

MANILA, Philippines – A Youth Movement warned netizens after an open casket photo of the former Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago circulated on social media days after the public viewing of the remains of the Senator was opened.

Supporters of the feisty and ‘Iron Lady of Asia’ flock at the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral starting Friday, September 30.

Since then, photos of Santiago’s wake were posted and shared online from groups and individuals whom personally went to the former senator’s public viewing.

But a particular photo alarmed Santiago’s supporters as an open casket photo of the late senator was posted and shared by netizens.

The spread of this particular photo moved one of the youth groups that supported Santiago since her presidential run. This group, Youth Reform Movement PH publicized on September 30, Friday, a plea to stop the spread of the open casket photos of Santiago.

Also, other Facebook pages based on Santiago and even netizens warned and urge the public to stop the spread of this said ‘insensitive’ photos:

As of press time, official statement from her family has not yet been issued.

On Thursday, September 29, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago died at her sleep at around 8:52 a.m. The feisty senator was diagnosed of lung cancer in 2014 but this does not stop her from running the presidential seat last May elections.

The funeral mass for the late Senator will be tomorrow, Sunday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the Assumption Chapel of the Cathedral Grottos, Immaculate Conception Church in Lantana St., Cubao, Quezon City. Her remains will then be brought to Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina for the final rites.
