'Bagyong Igme' PAGASA weather update October 1, 2016

MANILA, Philippines - Severe tropical storm 'Igme' (international name: Chaba) which has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday morning, October 1 is expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains within the 600 km diameter of the storm, state weather bureau PAGASA announced.

At 4:00 p.m. today, the center of 'Bagyong Igme' was estimated based on all available data at 1,305 km East of Casiguran, Aurora (17.0ºN, 134.3ºE) with maximum sustained winds of up to 100 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 125 kph. It is forecast to move Northwest at 25 kph.

  • 48 Hour(Monday morning): 895 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes
  • 72 Hour(Tuesday morning): 1,270 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes (Outside PAR)

The weather central said that partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the Northeast to Northwest will prevail over the eastern section of Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the Southwest to Southeast will prevail over the rest of Luzon and coming from Southwest to West over Visayas and Mindanao with slight to moderate seas.

PAGASA did not raise any tropical cyclone warning signal and expect that storm will not directly affect the country.

According to Accuweather report, Chaba will continue to strengthen and could take aim at mainland Japan and its Ryukyu Islands next week.

"Confidence remains moderate to high that Chaba will curve towards Japan and low for eastern China and northern Taiwan," AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys said.
