Raissa Robles’ Tweet about Miriam Santiago Angers Netizens

MANILA, Philippines - On Thursday, September 29, netizens lambasted Raissa Robles, following the veteran investigative journalist’s controversial tweet about former Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

Raissa Robles’ Tweet about Miriam Santiago Angers Netizens

“If MDS had become President and her VP had won, Bongbong Marcos would now be President. Think about it,” Robles tweeted.

Shortly after tweeting, Robles’ post received negative comments from netizens who accused her of being disrespectful and insensitive. Robles was also alleged of using the death of the late public servant to push her political agendas.

Here are some of their reactions:

Santiago, who sought presidency for the third and last time in the 2016 National Elections, selected Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., son of the late dictator, as her running mate. While Santiago finished at the tail end of the poll, Marcos came in second, 230,000 votes behind Vice President Leni Robredo.

Several Martial Law human rights victims have opposed the candidacy of Marcos after the latter refused to apologize for alleged abuses during his father’s regime.

“I have said this before and I will say it again: I will apologize for any wrongdoing that I may have done and any mistake that will have caused anyone any pain or hardship but I can only apologize for myself,” Marcos said.

Despite negative criticisms on her vice presidential choice, Santiago revealed they mutually chose each other.

“I think we mutually chose each other—our two camps. They happen to cross each other. Telephone lines happen to cross each other. It’s coincidental. One camp was calling the other,” Santiago said.

An internationally recognized lawmaker and legal luminary, Santiago succumbed to stage 4 lung cancer in the morning of September 29 at the age of 71. Popularly known as the “Iron Lady of Asia”, Santiago was named as one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World in 1997 by The Australian magazine.

5 Reasons why Filipinos dig Duterte vs De Lima Feud

Over the past few months, the seemingly endless row between President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Leila De Lima has caught the interest of Filipinos like a top rating soap opera.

Duterte, who was criticized by the former Human Rights chair and DOJ secretary for the alleged killings in Davao City, accused De Lima of coddling drug lords inside the New Bilibid Prison and receiving money from illegal drugs. Meanwhile, De Lima formerly headed a Senate investigation on extra-judicial killings involving Duterte’s war on illegal drugs before being ousted by fellow Senators.

Moreover, the president shocked the whole nation with his allegation that De Lima had an illicit relationship with former driver Ronnie Palisoc Dayan, whom he named as the senator’s bagman in New Bilibid Prison.

Their daily tirades and accusations against each other became trending topics on social media, making them the most-talked about political figures in the Philippines. As the plot thickens and the characters of the ongoing feud becoming more intriguing, Filipinos can’t seem to get enough of this fight.

We give you 5 reasons why Filipinos are digging this feud.

1. Duterte and De Lima are equally interesting characters.

Known for his temper and colorful language, Duterte made no-holds barred remarks against De Lima calling her an “immoral” senator. At one point, the country’s commander-in-chief even dared De Lima to just hang herself and resign from her post as senator. With such statements coming from the most powerful man in the country, you’d think De Lima would just back down and follow his advice. However, the fearless senator showed no signs of giving up and even dared the Duterte to just arrest her.

Now that’s a fight that could rival one of Senator Manny Pacquiao’s, right?

2. It has a telenovela effect.

Mind-blowing revelations, intriguing characters, and cliffhangers are essential elements in Pinoy telenovelas. The Duterte vs De Lima feud seem to have all of these three factors making netizens passionately follow their story. A lover, an apparent sex video, secret bank accounts, vigilante killings as well as prison riots- these are what hit telenovelas are made of.

3. Cayetano and Trillanes are good supporting casts.

As if the bad blood between Duterte and De Lima isn’t enough to give top ratings, their respective supporters Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV even made the feud more amusing with their clash during a Senate hearing. While Cayetano was busy interrogating self-confessed Davao Death Squad (DDS) member Edgar Matobato, Trillanes decided to take matters into his own hand and turned off the former’s microphone, fuelling a word war. Trillanes later apologized for his behavior.

4. The witnesses’ statements will blow you away.

Although Matobato’s claims and serious allegations against Duterte didn’t seem to convince most Pinoys, the testimonies of high profile inmates including Herbert Colanggo, who claimed he was allowed to sell a box of beer that costs P700 for P10,000, inside the NBP certainly drove everyone crazy.

5. It is a national issue.

Extrajudicial killings and the illegal drug trade proliferation at the NBP, if proven true, will completely change the state of war on illegal drugs in the country. Beyond scandals and intrigues, Filipinos are more concerned in resolving these issues that highly affect the nation’s future.

Netizens cry foul over leaking of alleged De Lima video scandal

MANILA, Philippines – According to Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II once proper court cases are filed, the Deparment of Justice (DOJ) may able to utilize alleged “sex video scandal” of Senator Leila De Lima amid allegations on her supposed illegal drug trade links at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Netizens cry foul over leaking of alleged De Lima sex video scandal

Aguirre on Tuesday, explained that showing the said ‘De Lima sex tape’ could be used to disprove or prove the former Justice Secretary’s alleged connections to former bodyguard and driver Ronnie Dayan whom is also said to be the senator’s lover.

Dayan is claimed to be then conspiring with high-profile inmates in the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, raising funds for De Lima’s senatorial campaign and “future plans”.

Meanwhile, netizens voiced out their disapproval regarding the leaking of alleged ‘De Lima sex tape.’ Stating that said act does not make any sense, even called irrelevant by some and said violates over the senator’s status as a woman.

Below are some Facebook status and tweets of netizens expressing their protests against planned usage of alleged ‘De Lima sex video scandal.’

Even former presidential candidate, Senator Grace Poe cautions that leaking said sex video scandal will be unlawful and illegal.

“I have reservations about the legality of the playing of alleged sex video, which will violate the very law that Congress passed,” Poe said on Wednesday in a text message as reported by Inquirer.

She cited that said act will violate Section 4 of Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, which says “expressly prohibits and declares unlawful the showing of photo or video coverage or recordings of such sexual act or any similar activity through VCD/DVD, internet, cellular phones and other similar means or device.”

Contrary to Poe’s statement, House Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez stated too on same day that he would allow the House of Representatives Justice Committee to make use of alleged ‘De Lima sex tape.’ Alvarez negate that said video will result to “slut-shaming” of the senator.

Do you agree on using Senator Leila De Lima’s alleged video scandal to firm up accusations on her illegal drug trade links?

VIRAL: Netizen slams "Pinoy Boyband Superstar” for pressing good looks over talent

MANILA, Philippines – A netizen’s post recently went viral on social media after calling on ABS-CBN’s newest reality TV show “Pinoy Boyband Superstar” criticizing the program for pressing a unconscious message that “good looking people are worthy of opportunities.”

Business Economics student “Feronie Anne Avila” posted on Facebook on Sunday, September 25, her ‘two-cents’ on the said TV show. “Pinoy Boyband Superstar is one of the most pathetic and useless TV shows to ever exist in the Philippines.” she wrote.

Netizen criticizes "Pinoy Boyband Superstar”

Avila cleared first that she has nothing against the show’s prime objective wherein to gather good looking teens who is also talented in singing and form a boy band. Sarcastically adding that boybands have always been present in the country but in the long run fails to make it. She mentioned “Chicser” and “Sugar High” as examples.

But what troubles Avila is the procedure wherein the good looking contestant enters the stage to be initially judge by the audience for his good looks before being able to meet the judges and actually sing.

“The issue for me is the method of grouping these "pretty boys." They walk into an estrogen infested room filled with petty, screaming teenagers and get voted either a yes or a no based on how they look. If they're handsome, then they go to the next round where they're given the chance to actually sing for the judges,” She wrote.

Avila pointed out out that’s “where the problem starts.” For Avila, the TV show is implying that first you have to pass the ‘standards’ of the society or “standards of a bunch of sad teenagers,” to be called for opportunities, to be discovered and to actually become famous.

“The question then stands, how about the guys who don't pass society's standards? What if they actually have so much more to give compared to the other pretty boys?” Avila questioned.

In the end of the post, Avila emphasized that successful boybands in Korea trained for over 4-10 years before debuting as group. Bluntly stating that forming a boyband in a span of 2-3 months is set out for failure and “If anything, it's a total insult to the music industry.”

“Pinoy Boyband Superstar is a pathetic excuse for a talent search contest. I'd rather just have another season of The Voice Philippines than watch that cringe-worthy show…” she added.

Pinoy Boyband Superstar Facebook post viral

Avila’s post immediately went viral over the weekend with over 7,000 shares as majority of the netizens expressed same sentiment.

Pinoy Boyband Superstar premiered on September 10 replacing the third season of The Voice Kids Philippines. It is based on Latin-American singing competition series La Banda that was created by Simon Cowell. The judges of the local show are composed of Aga Muhlach, Yeng Constantino, Sandara Park and Vice Ganda.

Single? You can now rent a social media boyfriend who’ll make your friends die of envy

Let’s face it. You’ve been itching to change that social media relationship status for the longest time. The only problem is, you haven’t found the perfect guy for you.

You can now rent a social media boyfriend who’ll make your friends die of envy
Are you going to stay single forever?PHOTO CREDIT: Huffington Post
It doesn’t have to stay that way as you can now rent a temporary social media boyfriend on Fastwork, a freelance work website. You can now get rid of that “single” relationship status that has been bugging your Facebook page for the longest time.

So how exactly does this Facebook-official relationship works?

According to an article by Coconuts Bangkok, you can hire a “professional” to be your social media lover for a week. Responsibilities include changing his relationship status to convince your friends that yes, you’re taken, liking as well as leaving sweet comments on your posts.

Of course, you can request whatever it is you’ll want him to write and even put limits on the “likes” you want so that your lover wouldn’t end up looking like a stalker on social media.

A certain “professional” Peerwait wrote in his job description:

“You can hire me to be your boyfriend on Facebook for a week. During that time, we’ll change our relationship status to show each other, I will ‘like’ your posts and pictures and go around leaving sugar-coated comments that will leave your friends burning with jealousy. You can request what it is you want me to write, as well as limit how many ‘likes’ you want.”

In Thailand, you can avail of a one-week service for as low as THB250 or almost P350. You can even send a picture of yourself that he will photoshop to make it appear that you were in a date. Let’s just hope that his photoshop skills are good enough to convince your doubting friends.

But if you want to go beyond likes, tweets, and romantic stickers on social media, you have the option to meet your lover for THB2,500 or almost Php3,500 for a series of clean fun “magical” dates that will each last for 4 hours. During this time, you can take photos together and later post it on social media for everyone to drool on.

Keep in mind that there is no monkey business involved as your lover will only provide friendly companionship.

Bank docs allegedly show P38M deposited to bank accounts of relatives of De Lima’s driver

MANILA, Philippines -The Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly discovered bank documents apparently showing that over P38 million went to the bank accounts of two relatives of Ronnie Dayan, Sen. Leila De Lima’s driver and supposed lover in 2014.

The Philippine Star reported that the information was obtained by the DOJ’s fact-finding investigation on the illegal drug operations in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) during De Lima’s stint as secretary of justice.

Millions of pesos were deposited to the bank accounts of Dayan’s daughter Hanna Mae Dayan as well as Dayan’s cousin Marco Palisoc in several instances in 2014.

Senator Leila de Lima

Dayan’s bank account got P24 million in four different cash deposits - P3 million on Feb. 7, 2014; P9 million on Feb. 21, 2014; P6 million on March 14, 2014 and P6 million on March 28, 2014. Palisoc’s account, on the other hand, received P14,304,000 in two separate cash deposits – P9,600,000 on Sept. 16, 2014 and P4,704,000 on Oct. 23, 2014.

The bank records have been forwarded by the DOJ to the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) for verification, according to PhilStar’s source.

Furthermore, DOJ Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II earlier said that aside from the bank accounts of Dayan and Palisoc, the investigators have also discovered bank deposit slips of several staff and people linked to De Lima totalling to over 88 million.

The female senator’s former staff Jonathan Caranto’s bank account received P24 million, Bogs Obuyes' got P24 million and Marrel Obuyes' received P2.2 million.

However, Aguirre pointed out that AMLC is yet to verify the deposits.

“If there is any link (between drug money and De Lima), it’s indirect – only bank accounts of her companions, friends and employees,” Aguirre said.

“But these people have no big sources of income to get millions in deposits, so what other conclusion could you get?” he added.

VIRAL: Netizen claims algae formed inside local chocolate drink

MANILA, Philippines – A netizen shared her friend’s experience after discovering a horrifying solid material inside a crowd favorite chocolate drink in the country.

Netizen claims algae formed inside local chocolate drink

Though posted months ago, the post of Facebook user “Betina Andrea D. Yder” re-surfaced online and now circulates on social media for the post’s shocking revelation.

Yder shared last July 27 her friend’s encounter to a chocolate drink, “Chuckie,” which is one of the most favorable drinks especially not just to children but to all ages as well.

She narrated that on the first period of their afternoon class, her friend named “Nikka” caught her attention, Yder narrated that Nikka feels like she is about to vomit.

According to their conversation, Nikka complained that the usual refreshing and sweet taste of Chuckie is but bitter taste. Yder tried to persuade that it must have been the effect of the toothpaste she used. She then remembered a similar experience about the chocolate drink that had gone viral.
When she teared the upper portion of the pack, Yder was left astounded and shocked to what she found:

“I shouted and I gathered my classmates and explained what is in the box. Cephassians (Yder’s class section) were so shocked and disappointed because most of us are consumer of chuckie chocolate drink. I told everything to my adviser,” Yder wrote in the post.

As seen in the photos, inside the 250ml Chuckie chocolate drink was a greenish substance. The most surprising part was the drink itself was semi-solid. Yder theorized that the material found was an algae.

Yder at the end of her post, voiced out her disappointment in encountering the said incident, coming to a conclusion that she will never drink Chuckie again. She expected that though some may not believe what she shared as she did before to another Chuckie incident, Yder admitted that she’s more than convinced now that she saw it firsthand.

This is maybe the second time that the Chuckie chocolate drink made viral on social media for the same reason—alleged spoiled and rancid product.

Jane’s post circulated and even reached Nestle Philippines, local manufacturer and distributer of the drink. Wherein they addressed the issue.;

Yder post went instantaneously viral with more than 30,000 shares which eventually reached Nestle Philippines, a month later a representative from the local manufacturer visited Yder’s school and give light to the viral issue;

Destroying De Lima? Viral Facebook post says Senator on "Trial by Publicity"

MANILA, Philippines – Amid the buildup of allegations against Senator Leila De Lima, a netizen has pointed out six reasons wherein she claims that the former Justice Secretary is on “trial by publicity.”

Posted last September 21, Facebook user “Lyn Dimaano” shared online her reasons as to why not be swayed on the accusations against De Lima.

Viral Facebook post says Senator on "Trial by Publicity"

This is after her friend, who is anxious on recent Congressional probe on National Bilibid Prison (NBP) drug trade is starting to believe on witnesses claims against the senator. The NBP is the Philippines' national penitentiary in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila.

VIRAL: Colanggo, other inmates dedicate a song for De Lima

The six reasons on Dimaano’s post argue about the alleged money from the illegal drug trade found in 19 bank receipts showing deposits of P88.5 million owned by the senator’s former DOJ employees.

Here are some of the key points:

First, Dimaano questioned if the said issue is true, a court lawsuit should be initially done, as stated: “Basta may matibay na ebidensya, idemanda mo. Di naman gagastos si Aguirre, kasi gobyerno ang kinakatawan niya. Di niya kailangan ang abugadong pribado. DOJ Chief siya! Sus!” (If there’s a strong evidence, sue her! Aguirre (Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre) wouldn’t spend anything because he represents the government. He doesn’t need a private attorney. He’s the DOJ Chief!)

She also questioned with all the strong evidences, why was it presented in the Congress wherein media is covering the hearing? Dimaano claims that there’s a “propaganda value” involved, arguing that once a lawsuit is presented in the court, the public cannot discuss it.

On the fourth argument, Dimaano also stressed out if a congressman can impeach a senator, which in the Philippine government is not possible.

She further expounded: “Pwede bang idemanda si De5 sa korte? Oo, dahil wala siyang immunity from suit.” (Can De5 (De Lima) be sued in court? Yes, because she doesn’t have immunity from lawsuit.)

Dimaano ended her post that obtaining another’s banking information without court order is not possible.

She concluded her post: “It is meant to destroy the one brave soul na openly lumalaban kay PDuts - si De5. Trial by publicity. Ulitin nang ulitin ang paratang hanggang akalain ng masa na totoo. Yung masa, pero hindi ako.” (It is meant to destroy the one brave soul that openly argues to PDuts (President Duterte) – De5 (De Lima). Trial by publicity. Pressing it on repeatedly until the public believes it’s true. Do it to the public but not me.)

Dimaano post De Lima

Dimaano’s post immediately went viral amassing more than 7,000 likes and was shared by over 4,000 times as of press time.

Last week, after being ousted as the chair of the Senate Justice Committee, testimonies against De Lima surfaced with convicted crime leader Herbert Colanggo and other high profile inmates divulved in the live congressional probe. Colanggo claimed that he gave monthly “payola” of P3 million to the senator.

VIDEO: Passenger wins over cab driver who charged her P3600 for trip from NAIA to Cubao

MANILA, Philippines - An abusive taxi driver and his cohort had to learn the hard way after the passengers they victimized almost put them behind bars.

Passenger wins over cab driver who charged her P3600 for trip from NAIA to Cubao

In a viral Facebook post, netizen Janine Jennilyn narrated how her and her brother escaped the evil plans of a cab driver and his accomplice, a barker, who attempted to charge them P3600 for a trip from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 to a bus terminal in Cubao, Quezon City.

Janine said that she and her brother decided to ride the taxi at the NAIA terminal 3 after a barker offered a metered cab.

She and her brother sensed something was wrong after finding that the barker also rode the taxi and sat next to the driver. Halfway through the trip, their suspicions were eventually confirmed when the barker demanded that they should pay P3600 for the trip.

Although this came as a surprise to them, Janine and her brother decided to pretend that they agree with the men as they knew they were capable of hurting them. Unknown to the men, Janine and her brother had crafted a plan to evade them.

Janine and her brother apparently told the two men that they need to withdraw cash from an ATM machine in order to pay the fare. After spotting a police station, which the two men didn’t notice, Janine and her brother asked the two men to drop them off. This gave them the chance to seek help from the police.

Upon seeing the police, the driver immediately unloaded their bags and sped off even if the taxi doors were still open.

“Actually ,ang plano po namin is bayadan sila kaharap yung mga police to discuss yung paniningil nila ng 3600 samin. Pero nung nakita palang nilang tumawag ako ng police,, nag tatakbo na po sila,” Janine said in her post.

Here are videos of Janine’s conversation with the tricksters.
