Yap, in his article for the Philippine Star, revealed that he was the one who introduced King to Mead in 2006. A few years into their relationship, the seemingly perfect and happy couple tied the knot in the US in 2011.

Mead knew all about the “Queen”

Contrary to speculations, Mead knew all about King’s secret life a few months into their relationship. He told his girlfriend about his fascination for wearing women’s underwear and things “escalated from there.”

King said they had struggles as individuals and as a couple but they never parted ways because of it. In fact, the two sought the help of counsellors as well as family and friends.

“Joey has had her struggles, we had struggles, but we never separated over it. We have been working through it. I have a counsellor, she has a counsellor, we talk to a lot of friends, family,” King told Yap.

Moreover, it was Joey who helped her transition into who she is now. Her wife even accompanied her when she first dressed up as woman in public.

“Our first outing night was my birthday back then with Joey. She said, “We are going out!” I said, “Scared!”— I was scared because Manila is so small,” King recounted.

Revealing Angelina to her family

According to King, her father, the late Archie King, had a hard time after she dropped the bomb. Nevertheless, he fully supported his daughter, just like other members of the King family, in the end.

King said: “My dad had a hard time, definitely, but even though he had a hard time in the beginning, he was full support in the end. My stepmom was my supporter, my real mom was a supporter, too. My brother was little weirded out with it but came on board and then, we started telling… I just told my cousins a few months before this. But now, there is no need to tell anyone, I don’t need to explain myself anymore.

Setting it straight

When asked whether he’s gay or not, King said he prefers women. He believes that sexual expression and preference are two different things.

“Sexual preference — no, I’m not gay. I like women. Soft, curvy, yeah, no body hair.
Even the way I feel, I like my guy friends but no way. Don’t get me wrong, feminine men are beautiful but overmasculine, hairy and too much muscle … appreciation of people comes in many shapes,” King revealed.

All Hail to the Queen

King have kept the Instagram account @hailtothe_queen_, which documents her transition, private since 2012. Just this weekend, she decided to open the account to the public after her wife Mead agreed to finally do it.

“I was with my stepmom in the other house and we were just talking, “You know people are talking…” I told her and some of my friends have sent me screen shots of other people’s chat groups. And it was like, “Hey, have you heard?” Like it was circulating already, so we were like, “It’s out already, why are we stopping it?” And everyone was just worried for Joey. So, that day after talking to my mom, I came here to the house and I asked Joey, “Ano, rock and roll na?”

Despite fears of being judged, the couple is overwhelmed with the outpour of support they are receiving since Angelina’s coming out. While people encouraged King to be her true self, Joey is admired for her capacity to love unconditionally.
