8 PH schools among Top 350 Universities in Asia 2016

MANILA, Philippines - Eight of the leading schols in the Philippines made it to the list of top 350 universities in Asia as announced by education firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) on Tuesday, June 14, 2015.

University of the Philippines (UP) is still the country's best, ranked 70th same as last year.

The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) improved by 44 notches, from 144 in 2015 and now hailed on 99th place.

Roman Catholic school De La Salle University (DLSU) edged out the oldest university in Asia University of Santo Tomas (UST) to claim the third spot. The latter fell in its ranking from rank 143 to 157 this year.

Though UST slipped in rankings, the institution brings pride of having 4 QS stars after garnering excellent marks in terms of employability, facilities, social responsibility and inclusiveness.

As the new list of top universities was expanded from 300 to 350 this year, four other schools made it to QS rankings.

Ateneo de Davao University, Siliman University in Dumaguete and Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro were included in the 251-300 bracket while University of San Carlos in Cebu debuted in the 301-350 bracket.

Published annually since 2009, the QS University Rankings in Asia features the the top universities from 16 countries throughout the region.

For the third year, the National University of Singapore was named as the top university in Asia for having a perfect score of 100.

Using a methodology based on nine performance indicators, the ranking facilitates comparison of Asia’s leading institutions on factors including global reputation, research production and impact, and internationalization.

The nine indicators used to compile the QS University Rankings in Asia are as follows: academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), faculty/student ratio (15%), citations per paper (10%) and papers per faculty (10%), staff with a PhD (5%), proportion of international faculty (2.5%) and proportion of international students (2.5%), proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5%) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5%).
