PAGASA: 'Bagyong Lando' intensifies; Signal No. 4 up in Aurora

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon Lando has further intensified as it threatens the provinces of Aurora, Isabela and Northern Quezon, the state weather bureau PAGASA annouced Saturday night, October 17, 2015.

As of 7 p.m. today, 'Bagyong ‪‎Lando'‬ was estimated was located based on all available data including Baler Doppler Radar at 185km East of Baler, Aurora (15.9°N, 123.3°E).

It has maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.

PAGASA raised Public Storm Warning Signal 4 (171-220 kph Expected in 12hrs.) in the province of Aurora where it is expected to make a landfall by Sunday morning, October 18.

The storm surge may reach to a maximum of 3 meters in Aurora and neighboring provinces.

Signal No. 4 impacts of the wind are as follows:

  • Very heavy damage to high-risk structures
  • Heavy damage to medium-risk structures;
  • Moderate damage to low-risk structures
  • Considerable damage to structures of light materials (up to 75% are totally and partially destroyed); complete roof structure failures.
  • Many houses of medium-built materials are unroofed, some with collapsed walls; extensive damage to doors and windows
  • A few houses of first-class materials are partially damaged
  • All signs/billboards are blown down. There is almost total damage to banana plantation,
  • Most mango trees, ipil-ipil and similar types of large trees are downed or broken.
  • Coconut plantation may suffer extensive damage.
  • Rice and corn plantation may suffer severe losses.


Meanwhile, Public Storm Warning Signal 3 (121-170 kph Expected in 18hrs.) is up over Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Ifugao and Northern Quezon including Polillo Islands.

Public Storm Warning Signal 02 (61-120kph Expected in 24 hrs.) raised over Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan group of Islands, Benguet, Mt. Province, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, rest of Quezon, Camarines Norte and Metro Manila.

Public Storm Warning Signal 01 (30-60kph Expected in 36 hrs.) raised in the following areas Batanes, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Lubang Island, northern Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Camarines Sur, Albay and Catanduanes.
