Bulls’ coaching staff revealed on Tuesday that Rose complained a serious pain in his right knee during their practice and immediately gave the shifty guard a medical attention. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) shows that Rose re-injured his Right Medial Meniscus and was told to undergo surgery.

For the third time, Derrick Rose damaged his knee and Bulls management fears that this could be another painful season-ender for the former MVP.

It was playoffs of 2011-2012 Season when DRose tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) of his left knee and placed him on the injured-reserve list for the reminder of the playoffs. He was also forced to skip the entire 2012-2013 season for his full rehabilitation and recovery.

He was cleared during the 2013-2014 season but unfortunately after playing 10 games, he injured his right knee and this time tearing his Medial Meniscus, his 2nd straight after his ACL and got side-lined for the remaining 50 plus games of the tournament.

Many fans and experts believe that Rose is another Brandon Roy in the making. A very explosive all-star player who prematurely hang his jersey due to series of knee injuries.

On the positive note, not all athletes who had serious knee injuries ended in retirement. Take NFL Running Back, Adrian Peterson as an example. The 6’1” Minnesota Viking who suffered torn ACL and MCL in his left knee in 2011, defied all odds and made a unbelievable comeback by recording a 2,000 plus rushing yards and bagged the season MVP.

Rose tried to return ala Adrian Peterson but he was never the same after 2 major knee surgeries. His stats diminish drastically. 2014-2015 was a great and hopeful season for Rose and the Bulls. They even fortified their line-up by acquiring 7’1” ex-Laker Pau Gasol and many basketball gurus believed that this was the best move of the off-season after Lebron James’ home coming to Cleveland.

DRose is averaging decent numbers in this current season with 18.4 PPG, 5.0 APG and 3.1 RPG and he even played for team USA who got gold at the FIBA World Cup in Spain in early 2014 which served as his testing grounds for this season.

Medical experts agree in unison that Derrick Rose is done at least for this season. It takes 6-8 weeks to heal a torn Medial Meniscus.

NBA playoffs starts in 2 months, with or without Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls will still be a threat in the Eastern Conference. Such a great timing for Jimmy Butler to mature, step-up and fill-in DRose’s shoes. As of the moment, the Bulls are in a very comfortable 3rd place of the standings and 2 wins ahead of Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The question is: will we ever see DRose on court again after a year? Or, we will rather see a Jersey Number 1 hanging on the ceilings of United Center Arena beside the Bulls Legends.

The Summit Express wishes Derrick Rose a speedy recovery. - D' Waterboy
