Palestine beats Philippine Azkals 1-0 in AFC Challenge Cup Finals 2014

Manila, Philippines - Palestinian national soccer team beat the Philippine Azkals, 1-0 in the final round of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives on Friday, May 30, 2014.

Palestine made history as it earned ticket to the 2015 Asian Cup to be held in Australia.

Phil Younghusband of Azkals had his best chance at goal in the 40th minute but wasn't able to convert. The Palestine got its lone goal from Ashraf Alfawaghra’s free kick in the 58th minute.

The Philippines remains proud of the achievement of Azkals despite the loss.

Dan Palama, Azkals team manager congratulated the champions on his tweet right after the game: "Congratulations to Palestine, we lost to a good team tonight. To all the Palestinians, we pray that peace may finally reign in your land."

On their head-head match, the Palestine fired 16 shots, 8 of them on target, while the Filipino had 9 shots on goal, with 2 on target, in the game.

On the way to the finals, the Azkals drew with Afghanistan and beat Laos and Turkmenistan in the group stage.

In the semis, the Philippines topped host Maldives, 3-2, to advance to the finals against Palestine.
