Sinulog Festival is considered as the mother of all festivals in the Philippines and the biggest event of the Queen City of the South.

The first Sinulog parade was held in 1980. It was organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development.

“Sinulog” comes from the Cebuano word “sulog” describing the back-and-forth movement of water currents which the Sinulog dance mimics. During the festival’s street dance parade, participants in colorful “moro moro” costumes dance the Sinulog, consisting of two forward steps and one backward step, to the beat of drums.
