Manila, Philippines - Due to inclement weather situation as Typhoon 'Labuyo' pounds Metro Manila and nearby provinces (Luzon) today, August 12, 2013, classes in all levels were suspended in some areas as announced through social media on Sunday and early Monday.

Department of Education (DepEd) said that according to rules, LGU officials are the authority to declare suspension of classes. Students are advised to closely monitor updates using #walangpasok hashtag on Twitter.

Under the rules on automatic suspension of classes, Storm Signal No. 1 suspends classes in kindergarten, No. 2 in elementary and high school, and No 3 in college, including graduate school and government offices.

PAGASA Weather Update:
At 7:00 AM today (12 August 2013), the eye of Typhoon “#LabuyoPH” was located based on all available data in the vicinity of Nueva Vizcaya (16.4°N, 121.3°E) with maximum sustained winds of 165 Kph and Gustiness of 200 Kph. Forecast Movement: West Northwest at 22 Kph.
Moderate to heavy rains is affecting Zambales and most likely to continue for the next 3 hours.
PAGASA said yesterday that 'Labuyo' is the strongest tropical cyclone so far for this year. By Tuesday morning, Labuyo is expected to exit PAR, the weather central said.
People are advised to MONITOR the weather condition in the next advisory by PAGASA.
