Pnoy declares May 13, 2013 (election day) a special holiday

Edwin Lacierda, Presidential Secretary said that May 13 is a special public holiday throughout the country.

The Constitution designates national and local polls to be held on the second Monday of May and by virtue of Proclamation No. 571, s. 2013, the President wishes to enable the Filipino people to exercise their right to suffrage.

"We enjoin all eligible to use this non-working holiday to participate in the electoral process that forms the bedrock of our democracy.", Palace said.

Last February 19, Malacanang also announced key dates in relation to Election 2013. Overseas absentee voting started April 13 and will end on May 2013. However, local absentee voting will start on April 28.
