January
According to Department of Health (DOH), New Year celebration nationwide left more than 1,000 people injured and 4 people reportedly dead. DOH considers this year as the "deadliest New Year Celebration" so far.

April
The Philippine Navy spotted Chinese fishermen fishing on the disputed Scarborough Shoal and attempted to detain the fishermen on April 10 but was blocked by the Chinese maritime surveillance ship which led to a diplomatic standoff over the shoal and the further severance of Chinese ties with the Philippines.

May
Nokia announced release of  Windows Phone mobile phones. Market share of Nokia in the Philippines started to decline. Smartphones (Android OS) started to gain attention of Filipinos.

The B-Meg Llamados wins defeating the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters 84-90 in overtime to win the 2012 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals.

Jessica Sanchez, won as runner-up on American Idol Season 11. Sanchez, with Filipino-blood gain support from million of Filipinos on her journey to AI Finals.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was voted 20-3, guilty and convicted at the conclusion of the Impeachment Trial and was removed from the office.

June
Transits of Venus which are among the rarest of predictable celestial phenomena occured. The previous transit having been in June 2004, the next pair of transits will not occur until December 2117 and December 2125.

Bradley defeated Manny  Pacquiao in a split  decision on the WBO battle. Twitter users worldwide creates appeal on the social stream for the controversial judges' decision.

July
President Benigno Aquino III delivered his SONA at Batasang Pambansa. Pnoy revealed his support for the controversial RH Bill (Reproductive Health Bill).

The entire Philippines was shocked July 10  for the sad news about King of Comedy's death.

August
Rain or Shine (RoS) Elasto Painters won over B-Meg Llamados at Governor's Commissioner Cup PBA's 37th Season at the final score of 83-76 game no. 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. It is the first-ever PBA championship of RoS  after joining the league in 2006.

From late July into the first week of August, heavy rain brought on by Typhoons Saola and Haikui caused widespread flooding in many parts of the Philippines, which affected 2.4 million people. The capital Manila was the worst-affected. Many people fled their homes, and around 362,000 people sheltered in evacuation centres. As of August 8, the death toll was confirmed to be at least 53,then a few days later, reports confirmed the death toll at 60. As of August 13, confirmed deaths had risen to 89.
