MassKara Festival 2012: It's more fun in Bacolod!

It's really more fun in Bacolod as the Filipinos and tourists around the world flocked to the City of Smiles from October 1-22, 2012 to witness MassKara Festival, a celebration of blessings and expressions for the Bacolodnons with a theme " Life's Good in Bacolod".

From themasskarafestival.com, official website- MassKara is coined from two words Mass, which means “many, or multitude,” and Kara, a Spanish word for “face,” thus MassKara is “a mass or multitude of smiling faces.”

Bacoleños celebrates 31st MassKara festivity and now considered as the happiest and world-class festival in the Philippines.

It is a good opportunity to pull the residents out of the pervasive gloomy atmosphere. The initial festival was therefore, a declaration by the people of the city that no matter how tough and bad the times were, Bacolod City is going to pull through, survive, and in the end, triumph.

Major highlights of the festival is the streetdance competition with venue at Libertad-Araneta Sts. to Bacolod Public Plaza. It has two categories, the school category which composed of 11 schools and barangay category with 15 entries.

Electric MassKara is another highlight  happened for three nights at Lacson St. showcased giant street party.

Bacolodnons also crowned 2012 MassKara Queen with event organized by ABS-CBN, October 19 at University of Saint La Salle Bacolod gymnasium. Ena Louis Velasco, a student at the University of St. La Salle, was crowned for the title. Schoolmates Samyah Al-Dossary  won first-runner-up honors while Daphne Tanya Molenaar bagged the 2nd runner-up award.


The 2012 MassKara Festival is presented by The City of Bacolod Government in cooperation with it's major sponsors: San Miguel Brewery Inc., Globe Telecoms, SM City Bacolod and Coca-Cola.
