All is set for 19-day London 2012 Olympics

After almost nine (9) years of preparation which includes the bidding process for the 2012 Summer Olypic Games popularly known as London 2012, England is ready to host the much awaited event. It's opening ceremony will be held on July 27 (few more days left) and closing date on August 12, 2012. One event, football is set to begin on July 25th. Over 10,000 athletes from 24 countries are expected to participate and will feature 26 sports and a total of 39 descipines.

The opening ceremony is called " The Isles of Wonder" and will be directed by Danny Boyle, Oscar-winning director. The British royalty is expected to open the event with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at the ceremony. Other preformers include Paul McCartney.

London was selected to host the event after winning at Round 4 of the selection process. It was announced during the 117th International Olympic Committe (IOC) Session in Singapore last July 6, 2005. In the history, London is the 1st city  to officially host the Olympic Games for three times, 1908 and 1948.

Paris is neck to neck battle at the bidding results 50-54. Other cities shortlisted in the bidding are Madrid (up to Round 3), New York City (up to round 2) and Moscow (eliminated early on Round 1).
The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will use a mixture of new venues, existing and historic facilities, and temporary facilities, some of them in well-known locations such as Hyde Park and Horse Guards Parade. The main focus of this is a new 200 hectare Olympic Park, constructed on a former industrial site at Stratford in the east of London

According to IOC, expected number of volunteers for the said event is around 240, 000.Sebastian Coe, head of London 2012 bid and Olympic champion said in February 2012, "Our Games Makers will contribute a total of around eight million volunteer hours during the Games and the Games simply wouldn't happen without them".

As per reports, tickets were already sold with the starting sale last year. Last  May 11, 2012 a round of nearly one million "second chance" tickets went on sale. Organisers estimated that 8 million tickets were sold for the Olympic Games,and 1.5 million tickets for the Paralympic Games.

The London 2012 logo had been designed byWolff Olins and was unveiled last June 4, 2007. The logo is a representation of number 2012 ,with the Olympic Rings embedded within the zero.
During the bidding process, Panasonic was chosen as the digital technology format. Panasonic announced that DVCPRO HD will be the official recording format for capturing the Games. Olympic Broadcasting Services London (OBSL), the Host Broadcaster, will use P2 HD series equipment to support the broadcast of the competition. The cameras that will be used are the AG-HPX250, the company’s first P2 HD handheld camcorder with AVC-Intra recording and two new AVCCAM HD handheld camcorders, the AG-AC160 and AG-AC130, with Full HD imagers and a new, wider 21X HD zoom lens.

As of this writing, it is about 17, 274 has subscribe to the channel and around 3. 5 million video views.
